Millions of people rely on urinary catheters each year, and catheter use can be associated with discomfort, irritation, and other complications.

Unwanted catheter movement during normal daily activities may contribute to these challenges. HAITEC Medical is developing UroStride™ with SoftGrip™ technology to provide an additional layer of external catheter motion management alongside conventional securement.

Our goal is to reduce unwanted catheter motion and improve the overall catheter-wearing experience. Potential effects on comfort, irritation, and other clinical outcomes are still being evaluated.

Understanding Catheter Motion

Lateral catheter motion refers to side-to-side or up-and-down movement of the catheter relative to the body. During normal daily activities, this movement may create pulling or friction at the catheter-patient interface and may contribute to discomfort and irritation.

Pistoning refers to inward and outward movement of the catheter relative to the body. This repeated motion may contribute to mechanical irritation at the catheter-patient interface.

One hypothesis is that repetitive catheter movement may also contribute to bacterial migration along the catheter-urethral interface. The relationship between catheter motion and infection risk has not been established and requires further clinical investigation.

The UroStride™ Approach

UroStride™ with SoftGrip™ technology is a two-part external catheter motion-management system consisting of reusable UroStride™ Briefs and a single-use SoftGrip™ Patch.

The system is designed to couple the external Foley catheter tubing to the garment, providing an additional stabilization point between the catheter exit site and the conventional leg securement device.
